Meet Our Family
Hi and welcome to our blog! We are a small family of three: Nathan, Larni and our little guy, Zagan. This is a fun space to write about our wild adventure from slaving away in the concrete jungle that is Brisbane, Queensland to finding ourselves as we transition into bush life on our fully off-grid property in the stunning Southern Tasmanian hinterland.
Our blog shares our new-found knowledge and experience about living off the land in a low-waste, self-sufficient and self-sustainable way. We show our trials and tribulations about harnessing the nature around us to capture energy and water, composting, growing food, raising and processing animals, cooking and baking, preserving, dehydrating and fermenting. We are also learning how to sew our own clothes, make our own household items and turn milk into delicious dairy products. We have a space dedicated to all of the above and more, under the heading ‘Our Homestead‘.
Shortly after we moved to Tasmania, I became pregnant and in 2020 gave birth to our beautiful, energetic, determined and free-spirited son. Our blog shares our journey into parenthood as we navigate the responsibility of caring for a little person and share in his joy of learning about the world around him. Under the heading ‘Home Education‘ you will find all things dedicated to early childhood learning.
After having a child and realising a change in priorities from physical things to precious moments, we began a journey into minimalism and simple living. We are so far from reaching this goal, though we have started the process, and wish to share our experiences. Check out the heading ‘Minimalism / Simple Living‘.
At the age of 15, Nathan began his journey to become a heavy-duty diesel mechanic. He has over 23 years of specialist knowledge and enjoys teaching others who want to learn how to improvise, problem solve and fix all things mechanical. You can find tips and tricks under the heading ‘Mechanical‘.
We appreciate our community of like-minded people and enjoy learning from the interesting folk we meet. We created this website as a way to provide information, share an insight into our changing lives and give others a safe space to chat about all things related to getting back to basics and living simply and fulfilling lives.
